A capable VLF detector that reads targets clearly and holds steady across tricky ground.

The TX-850 runs at 19 kHz with an 11-inch waterproof DD search coil, giving it strong sensitivity to small, low-conductivity finds like gold nuggets while still working as an all-round detector for coins, jewelry and relics. The body pairs reinforced ABS and metal with an adjustable shaft (about 42-52 inches) and a padded armrest. The LCD shows probable target type, numeric Target ID (0-100), depth, sensitivity, discrimination/notch range and battery status. Separate gain, threshold and ground balance controls let you tune for mineralized soil, salt and shifting terrain. A dedicated pinpoint mode helps you place targets before you dig.

Why we picked it

  • Tuned for small gold - 19 kHz and the 11" DD coil respond well to fine gold and small jewelry.
  • Control in hard ground - Adjustable ground balance, gain and threshold keep it stable in mineralized and salt conditions.
  • Faster recovery - Numeric Target ID, audio tones and pinpoint mode cut down on guesswork and digging.

Good to know

Ground balance range runs from ferrite to saltwater to reduce false signals. Runs up to 15 hours on a single 9V battery (not included). Suits gold prospecting, beach hunting, field searches, archaeology support and security checks.

Common questions

Q: How deep does it detect?
A: Depth varies with target size, shape, orientation and soil. Coin-sized targets are typically found near 12-15 inches, and larger objects deeper.

Q: Is the whole unit waterproof?
A: The 11-inch DD coil is waterproof for shallow water and wet sand. The control housing is not waterproof and should stay dry.

Q: Can a beginner use it?
A: Yes. The clear visual Target ID, simple buttons and adjustable sensitivity make it approachable, with deeper controls for later.

Q: What battery does it need?
A: One 9V battery (not included), with up to 15 hours of use depending on settings and battery quality.
